“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” - Maya Angelou
Here on Eileen Shona, a remote island in the West Highlands, I am in the middle of a powerful, moment.
The wild beauty, the never-ending quiet and the need to express how life-changing it all is, gives me hope that there are safe places for me to build and nurture my stories, and to give them a superabundant place to thrive.
I came here to write, but this place is also healing the broken places in me that have needed attention for a very long time. I thought maybe I could write without putting the “personal” in the storyline. Not true, apparently.
Everything is personal.
So, after a bracing walk along the water that speaks in song, through a forest that carries the woodsy and welcoming scent I remember, and the soft moss floor that supports my steps
forward, I shall write what I came here to write.
The truth.
